Book Club-South of the Fontera

Come join us for our journey through books by RPCVs. Reading of the book is not mandatory. We have fun socializing and sharing our Peace Corps adventures.
We are fortunate to have the author joining us for the first time in our Book Club history. Larry Lihosit will be joining us to talk about his book South of the Fontera.
We will be upscaling a bit restaurant-wise and eating at Tamarindo (a Michelin 2008 Bib Gourmand restaurant). Join us for the book, join us for the restaurant, join us for this self published author who is willing to tell us the ins and outs of being an author.

Hike Point Reyes

We will be meeting in front of the Bear Valley Visitor Center at Point Reyes on Saturday, July 10, at 10 AM. The hike will start with an easy warm up down Bear Valley Trail to the Ocean. We will then turn North and hike along the Ocean to Sculptured Beach where we will stop for lunch. If you have never been there - bring a camera. Sculptured Beach has the most beautiful ocean and cliff views in California.

Once we're all rested we will begin a 1,400 foot ascent to Mount Wittenberg for panoramic views of Drakes Bay. Then it is an easy downhill hike back to the visitor's center. There's some cozy traditional pubs in nearby Olema where we can relax and fill up before heading home.

This hike is approximately 11 miles with an elevation change of 1,400 feet. We will be taking it easy with plenty of rests to enjoy the trip. Total hike time is about 5 hours. Carpools are available from Berkeley, Oakland and SF. Let me know if you need a ride so we can arrange a pickup. If you are coming from another location and can offer a carpool let me know.

Meet-n-Greet w/PC Career Ctr

Peace Corps Career Center Coordinator, Jodi Hammer, will be visiting the San Francisco Regional Recruitment Office of Peace Corps the afternoon of Mon., July 12, where she’ll meet with RPCVs interested in learning more about the many career services available to ALL RPCVs through Peace Corps’ Career Center & Returned Volunteer Services departments in Washington, DC. Jodi will also lead an interactive Q&A during this meeting, where RPCVs will have the opportunity to ask any and all of their career/job search questions.
Immediately following the Q & A session, from 3:00-5:00 pm, Jodi will provide individual resume reviews, scheduled in advance on a first come first served basis (see below). These 15-min. time slots will allow RPCVs to gain professional feedback and tips regarding their resume.
To register for this event, email rpcvcareercenter@peacecorps.gov and put “SFRO meeting 7/12--RSVP” in the subject line. You must provide your full name, country of service and years of service when registering to verify your RPCV status. [Note: If you are interested in scheduling a 1-on-1 resume review slot, you must indicate this in your registration email, attach a copy of your resume, and bring a hard copy with you to the event. Appointments will be scheduled on a first-come first served basis and are limited so register now if interested!]
Hope to see you there!

Grant Application Deadline

We are looking for community-based projects in different parts
of the world, in keeping with the spirit of Peace Corps. The proposals do
not have to come from RPCVs or current PCVs, but whenever possible we look
for a connection to the NorCal Peace Corps Association and Northern
California. More information is available on the NorCal website at
www.norcalpca.org. Or contact Marilyn Hyde, Grants Committee Chair, at
marhyde@cruzio.com.
