NorCalPCA Member & RPCV Fiji 1974-76

Jon Anderson was from Cincinnati, Ohio. After learning Hindi in Peace Corps Training, he was assigned to Fiji’s Ministry of Finance where he was responsible for economic surveys and piloted tourist expenditure questionnaires. Jon met his wife, Christine, in the Peace Corps. They were married for 43 years and resided thereafter in San Francisco.

Jon retained great interest in Fijian culture. In his long involvement as a NorCal member, he carried the Fiji flag in the parade before Giants baseball games in the 1970s; coordinated a 1996 4-course curry dinner for S.F. Marina RPCVs; oversaw kava ceremonies at the Festival of Cultures in Golden Gate Park; and attended NorCal conferences and annual general meetings. Jon was an active member of Friends of Fiji.

Jon worked for USDA Food and Nutrition Service and later Health and Human Services regional office for 32 years before retiring in 2006. His volunteer activities included rewiring his neighborhood Marina Middle School for Wi-Fi. Services will be held in August 2024.
