Wow! What a Year! – A Global Presenters Program Wrap-Up

Monday January 11, 2016

Despite the holiday season, there was still great demand in having global presenters speak during the months of November and December. RPCVs spoke at grammar schools, universities, senior centers, and in open forums. In November, there were 11 speaking opportunities and in December, including at our Global Presenters Program celebration, there were 10 opportunities.

Year to date, including matches made into 2016 as well as the Global Presenters Program celebration, 101 RPCVs have been matched to speak at 118 events. This has been a fantastic first year for the Global Presenters Program!

Highlights from November and December include a career panel of RPCVs Lauren Winokur, David Boone, and Ellie Adelman speaking to students about health care assignments in the Peace Corps and the career choices that followed. RPCV and former teacher Lydia McCloskey gave a presentation to fifth through eighth graders at Our Lady of Grace Charter School in Castro Valley, where the principal said, “Lydia did a fantastic job. The students loved her. She has a marvelous stage presence. I am so glad you set this up.” RPCVs also completed several speaking series for the year, including those at the San Bruno Senior Center, the Petaluma Senior Center and Senior Cafe, the Hayward Senior Center, and the UC Berkeley DeCal classes.

Opportunities continue to come our way for 2016 with nine venues providing a total of more than 20 speaking opportunities throughout the new year.
